Joseph has arrived!!!!!

Joseph Carter was born this morning at 3:34am. He weighed in at 7lbs. 9oz. and measured 20.5 inches.

His condition is more severe than we were expecting. His left lung is very tiny and his right lung “the good lung” has a hole in which the oxygen they are pumping in is escaping. They are trying to fix that problem now. He’s on 100% oxygen right now and the antibiotics and medicines and not helping him get any better. He was transferred to Children’s at Egleston around 7:30am this morning so they can do more tests and get him on ECMO a.s.a.p.

To be honest, right now Sky and I are a complete mess. We are right next to the baby nursery and upset that our baby isn’t in there. Hopefully we’ll get better news later on today. We are trying to stay positive, he’s fighting so we will too. He tried to cry when he was born but every time he started to cry he choked.

We’ll try to keep everyone updated as much as possible, Please keep him in your prayers.

Oh and Sky took some beautiful pictures of the little guy during and after the birth. Even though he didn’t want to get out the camera, which is unusual for him. Sky has been in a daze the entire time.

Thank you all for your support. Connecting with you guys through our blog and emails have really helped uplift our spirits. It means so much to us.

Sky + Carla

Sending lots of prayers Joseph's way. I know that this is not going exactly how you hoped for. All of us CDH parents pray that ECMO would not be needed but I know how scary all of this is and I also know of several babies who were on ECMO are now toddlers running around. You would never know that they had such a rough beginning.

Praying for sweet little Joseph!
Praying for Sky and Carla and praying for wisdom from the Nurses and Doctors.

Welcome to the world little Joseph! We are thinking about you and praying that he will be stabilised quickly. Reading your post brought back memories of our own story 6 weeks ago. You will have a lot of ups and downs but do stay positive as your little one will pick up on it and continue his fight against CDH.
All the best!

Carla and Sky:

I recently heard of what is going on and I see that Joseph has arrived! My family and I welcome him into the world!
Please remember that God is good, that he has a plan for each one of us. Fight with all of your might and as soon as you can be close to him reach out, grab his tiny hands and show him you love him and that you are there for him. The power of love is amazing and I know, I have faith that he will pull through. There is nothing impossible for God as long as we blindly believe in his power of healing and his eternal and unconditional love. If you need anything at all, always know that you can count on me!

Love,

Xochil
